MARCH 15TH

LAST DAY TO FILE THIS YEAR FOR HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION

AND BUSINESS PERSONAL PROPERTY TO AVOID PENALTIES

“March 15th is the legal deadline for filing THIS YEAR for the property tax saving Homestead Exemption and it’s also the legal deadline for filing Business Personal Property Taxes to avoid penalties.  Save time and money because these filings are available for the FIRST TIME on the Oklahoma County Assessor’s Website WWW.OklahomaCounty.org/assessor ,” said Oklahoma County Assessor Larry Stein.

Homestead Exemption is an old term that saves qualified homeowners an average of $130 a year.  Business Personal Property Taxes are paid on the property owned by businesses, like furniture, computers; manufactured homes and farm equipment.

“It’s exciting to know more than 2,500 Business Personal Filings have been completed on the Oklahoma County Assessor’s Office electronic ONLINE filing options, a FIRST for Oklahoma County’s internationally recognized website and leading the technology wave in Oklahoma.   This new feature saves businesses time and taxpayers money by reporting on the web.  It also saves space because 2,500 filings would fill a file cabinet with papers which would have to be saved in boxes, then scanned and eventually sent to a document destruction company,” said Oklahoma County Assessor Larry Stein.

“We’re urging everyone able to use the electronic filing features for ALL the required forms because it is much more efficient for our staff and the citizens required to make these filings. I want to thank the Budget Board and the Board of County Commissioners for their support of the assessor’s office to continue to have Oklahoma County leading the way in technology serving the public,” Stein said.

The Budget Board is comprised of the three county commissioners, assessor, treasurer, court clerk, county clerk and the sheriff.  The amazing achievements and advances in using leading edge technology happen because of the cooperation and trust the group has to achieve great things.

“The assessment process is responsible for providing funding for schools, colleges, technology centers, libraries, city/county health department and many other services.

The assessment process creates more than 82 percent of the entire Oklahoma County budget funding the county offices, law enforcement, secure legal and property records and much more,” Stein said.
