Oklahoma County, OK -- Commissioner Jason Lowe is pleased to announce the appointment of John Pettis Jr. as his Chief Deputy. In this role, Pettis Jr. will serve as the primary representative of the county’s Policy and Governance and Infrastructure committees and the Public Buildings Authority Advisory Committee. This marks an important step in Commissioner Lowe’s tenure as he completes his first week in office.

Commissioner Lowe and John Pettis have known each other for nearly a decade, fostering a strong professional relationship built on mutual community advocacy and collaboration. “I am excited to appoint my respected colleague, John Pettis, as my Chief Deputy. His experience and dedication to public service will be invaluable as we strive to serve our District 1 and the entire Oklahoma County community effectively,” said Commissioner Lowe. Lowe continues, “I have watched John serve and be a part of many community initiatives on the Northeast side of Oklahoma City (NEOKC) and across the State to prioritize and efficiently serve underserved communities. I have full confidence in his abilities to help guide our administration’s priorities and tackle the challenges ahead.”

Pettis, former Councilman for Oklahoma City Ward 7, has been instrumental in Oklahoma City’s economic development and urban and rural planning. During his time in office, he helped form the first major Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District in NEOKC, The NE Renaissance.

Pettis brings a wealth of experience in these areas and others from his time on the City Council Finance Committee, Neighborhood Conservation Committee and Zoo Trust, OKC Economic Development Trust, National League of Cities Human Development Committee, and serving as the Community Liaison for Millwood Public Schools and Community Health Centers of Oklahoma will play a crucial role in shaping policies that impact on our community’s infrastructure and governance processes. “This is an exciting time for our county,” said Pettis. “I look forward to working closely with Commissioner Lowe and our committees to ensure we address the needs of our residents and enhance the quality of life for all people in our community.”

Commissioner Lowe’s first appointment as a county commissioner marks the beginning of a new chapter in leadership and collaboration for District 1. With trusted allies like Pettis by his side, he is positioned to make significant strides toward achieving the goals of his administration for the district and Oklahoma County.
