Lowe Becomes the First African American Male to serve as Oklahoma County Commissioner
Oklahoma County, OK- Oklahoma County proudly welcomes Jason Lowe as the new District 1 Commissioner today. Lowe’s official swearing-in ceremony took place at 4:30 pm at the Oklahoma County Courthouse. Oklahoma County District Judge Cindy Truong administered the oath of office.
Commissioner Lowe’s swearing-in marks a pivotal moment for the county as he fills the vacant seat of former Commissioner Carrie Blumert. Lowe, who previously represented House District 97 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives, made history as the first African American male to be sworn in as a Commissioner in Oklahoma County.
Lowe brings a wealth of experience with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Virginia State University and a Juris Doctorate from Oklahoma City University School of Law. Having practiced law for over a decade and serving in the House of Representatives since 2016, Lowe has been a trailblazer advocating for civil rights and justice reform.
Commissioner Lowe stated that his administration’s top priority will be ensuring that the new detention center and mental health facility effectively serve the needs of Oklahoma County’s detainees. Lowe will also focus on keeping the 170 miles of District 1 roads well maintained and safe, expanding mental health treatment in lieu of incarceration, ensuring that every resident’s voice is acknowledged and valued, and creating economic development opportunities within District 1 and Oklahoma County.
“I am deeply honored to take on the District 1 County Commissioner role,” stated Lowe. He continued, “I look forward to working alongside my fellow county officers to find solutions that will prioritize the well-being of all Oklahoma County residents, partnering with municipalities in my district to improve much-needed infrastructure projects and work towards creating support for our underserved populations in the Oklahoma County jail.”
