Oklahoma City Man Sentenced to 33 Years for Shooting an Oklahoma City Police Officer

09 Aug, 2024 | Return|

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

August 2, 2024

OKLAHOMA CITY – Today, Michael Anthony Wilson, of Oklahoma City, plead guilty to multiple charges stemming from the October 13, 2023, shooting of an Oklahoma City police officer. The Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office charged Wilson with the following:

  • Count #1: Shooting with Intent to Kill
  • Count #2: Assault with a Dangerous Weapon

Upon pleading guilty, Wilson was sentenced by the Court to 33 years in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, with the first 23 years to do. His state sentence will be served concurrently to a recent federal sentence of 15 years for illegally possessing a firearm.

BACKGROUND

On October 13, 2023, an Oklahoma City police officer was sitting in his vehicle facing eastbound in a parking lot off Wilshire Boulevard and Lyrewood Lane. The officer was speaking to a citizen in their car when he heard gunfire. The shot went through the passenger window of his patrol car and struck his mobile laptop. The officer drove out of the parking lot and relocated his patrol car when he realized he had been struck by shrapnel. There was a second bullet defect in the trunk area of the officer’s vehicle.

Detectives located six 9mm bullet casings in a parking lot near 6700 W. Wilshire. A 9mm pistol was recovered east of 7800 Lyrewood. A doorbell camera captured the suspect with a small handgun. Analysis of the video led to the tentative identification of Wilson as the suspect. The lab was able to confirm the recovered casings were linked to the recovered 9mm handgun. Additionally, Wilson’s DNA was located on the gun. Wilson was arrested on October 14, 2023, and booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center. The State charged Wilson on October 24, 2023.

The officer has recovered from his injuries and returned to work not long after the incident.
