Oklahoma County – Yesterday, the Oklahoma County Board of Commissioners voted to allocate an additional $500,000 to the public/private partnership to relocate Griffin Memorial Hospital to Oklahoma City. With yesterday’s vote, the county has committed $1.5 million for the project. “My support of this additional investment demonstrates my commitment to addressing the pressing mental health needs of our residents,” said Commissioner Carrie Blumert.
The relocation of Griffin Memorial Hospital to Oklahoma County from Norman will allow the hospital to expand its reach, while providing a comprehensive approach to mental health services in Oklahoma County. The new hospital will provide over 300 inpatient beds for both adolescent and adult care. In addition to inpatient care, the hospital would also provide additional options for outpatient care in Oklahoma County.
“Bringing Griffin Memorial Psychiatric Hospital to Oklahoma County will provide another option for our residents who are in need of mental health services and will likely alleviate pressure on our county jail. This funding is a win-win for all partners involved and the community,” said Blumert. Blumert went on to say that having the new facility in Oklahoma County would help alleviate the burden on emergency rooms, law enforcement agencies, and other community resources.
