FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE --- March 4, 2024
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Oklahoma County, in a resolute stance today, clarified its dedication to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety of its citizens.
Addressing recent misinformation, the county emphasizes that it is not and has never been a sanctuary city, unequivocally dispelling any contrary claims. County Commissioner Myles Davidson expressed concern that federal immigration policies may negatively impact the broader goal of maintaining public safety while respecting legal frameworks.
“I will not let the safety of our county be jeopardized at the expense of an administration that welcomes illegal immigration,” Commissioner Davidson said. “President Biden and Congress need to close the border immediately; enhance border security and address the overall illegal immigration problem our country is facing.”
The county affirms its unwavering support for the leadership of Oklahoma County Sheriff Tommie Johnson, acknowledging his ongoing efforts to strike a balance between effective law enforcement and the protection of the rights and dignity of legal citizens within the jurisdiction.
