Oklahoma County- Oklahoma County District 1 Commissioner Carrie Blumert has announced that the Oklahoma County Annex Building will be lit green throughout May to honor Mental Health Awareness Month. This initiative, including the $40 million investment in the mental health diversion center next to the new jail and the recent investment in mental health treatment courts, is part of the County's ongoing commitment to treatment, raising awareness of, and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health issues.
Commissioner Blumert, a long-time mental health advocate, emphasized the importance of recognizing Mental Health Month. "For many years, I have been unwavering in my commitment to advocating for the critical need for more mental health resources and support within our community. Mental Health Month is a pivotal time to unite and demonstrate our support for those facing challenges. By lighting the courthouse in green, we extend hope and support for those affected by mental health illnesses."
Blumert stated “The green lighting of the Oklahoma County Courthouse is not just a visual but a call to action.” She continues “It reminds residents of the importance of mental health and our united role in providing continued support.” Commissioner Blumert urges residents to participate actively in Mental Health Month by spreading awareness, seeking mental health education, and supporting the community partners who provide resources.
For those experiencing a mental crisis, help is just a call or text away. The Oklahoma Mental Health Lifeline number 988 is here to provide direct support and guidance.
